Alia Bhatt has some very interesting projects lined up. She will next be seen in Brahmastra, alongside her beau Ranbir Kapoor, and while she was earlier going to be seen with Salman Khan for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Inshallah, that project was shelved later. However, after Inshallah was shelved, Alia had been roped in for SLB’s next directorial venture, Gangubai Kathiawadi, and it will see Alia playing the role of Kamathipura’s brothel owner Gangubai. Now, reports on the Internet state that Khatron Ke Khiladi star Shantanu Maheshwari will also have an important role in the film.

According to Pinkvilla, Shantanu Maheshwari has been roped in and will play an important role in Gangubai Kathiawadi. Specifying why the makers chose Shantanu for the role, a source revealed to Pinkvilla, “Sanjay Leela Bhansali was looking for a fresh face who would carry that innocence but still be convincing in a dark role. The team had auditioned Shantanu Maheshwari and they loved his tape. SLB also was immensely impressed by him and he has now officially been signed on to play one of the lead roles opposite Alia in the film. The report also stated that the makers are filming Alia Bhatt’s portions as a young Gangubai, and Shantanu Maheshwari will kickstart the shoot for the film soon. Meanwhile, Alia dropped two looks of hers from Gangubai Kathiawadi a few days ago and people were amazed to see Alia’s transformation to an entirely different avatar of a brothel owner.
